Preparing for your Piercing Appointment

Whether you are pondering on getting a new piercing or have already booked your appointment; here are some tips on how to prepare beforehand.

It's a great idea to reflect on your daily life and recognize which variables may complicate the healing of particular piercings. For example, inner ear headphones and devices wouldn't be ideal for an inner ear piercing such as the Tragus, Daith and possibly Conch. A better option would be an outer ear location; like on the Lobe or Helix.

Look at Inspiration

I love when clients show me their Pinterest board or saved inspiration from Instagram. It helps me understand what you are hoping to achieve, and lets be honest; with so many piercing names it can be really confusing. Imagine yourself arriving to an appointment wanting an "Orbital" piercing, but what you actually want is a Conch piercing with a ring that wraps around. See how things start to get complicated? Photos are the best way to really communicate what you're looking for - don't stress about not knowing all the proper piercing names!

Have a Plan B There's nothing more difficult than telling a client they can't have their favourite piercing. Whether its from lifestyle or anatomy that doesn't physically support the piercing - sometimes I have to decline. Being open minded and prepared with a back-up plan is often overlooked when it comes to piercing appointments. Ears are so different from person to person, and even from one of our own ears to the other. If you see a piercing you like on someone else, keep in mind that it might not work for you. Or you may have to compromise on a placement that isn't the exact same, but the closest you will get to that aesthetic.

Don't Overthink

It doesn't matter how many piercings I have, I still get a little nervous before each one. I've learned that there's no sense in wondering "how much is this going to hurt?" and other questions along those lines. Everyone feels things totally different. My most painful piercings might be your least painful and vice versa. Try to hype yourself up before your appointment; it's exciting isn't it? Be present at the time and allow yourself to experience the moment without preconceived notions. I often tell my clients that the anticipation is the worst part!

Although it doesn't happen often - It's totally okay to let me know if you aren't ready for your piercing. I will happily reschedule your appointment for another day.

Time to Sparkle I hope these tips help you to better prepare for your next piercing. Planning before your arrival can ensure you aren't disappointed if a particular piercing isn't suitable for you. If you still aren't sure where to start; save some photo inspo and book a free in-person consultation. I will help you address all these considerations before committing to a new piercing!
