What jewellery can I get pierced with?
CHOOSING THE RIGHT JEWELLERY FOR HEALTHY HEALING
Our focus is providing you with healthy piercings and easier healing. Every jewellery style we offer has been carefully selected based on years of experience and consistently positive healing outcomes.
Healing a piercing is not always smooth and requires patience, diligence, and proper care. Starting with appropriate jewellery plays a major role in your success, and our goal is to make your healing process as comfortable and straightforward as possible.
Ears
For most fresh ear piercings, we begin with a threadless (push-pin) flat-backed labret (stud style) paired with a decorative top of your choice.
Daith piercings are started with a ring featuring a center bead or gem to prevent the opening from sliding into the fresh piercing.
Snug, rook, and anti-tragus piercings heal best when started with a curved barbell.
Nostril
Although commonly thought of as a soft tissue piercing, nostrils are technically cartilage. We start nostril piercings with a threadless (push-pin) flat-backed labret post and a decorative top of your choice.
The flat backing helps prevent the jewellery from being pulled out, unlike L-bend or nose bone styles.
We strongly advise against starting nostril piercings with a ring. Rings are more likely to drag debris into the piercing and must be sized quite large to allow for swelling, which can complicate healing.
Vertical Labret & Vertical Philtrum
These piercings pass vertically through the lower or upper lip and are performed using a curved barbell that is internally threaded (the fastening screw is inside the barbell).
Nipple
Nipple piercings are performed using straight barbells, either threadless (push-pin) or internally threaded.
Navel
Most navel piercings are performed using an internally threaded curved barbell, with the end sizes and styles chosen based on your anatomy.
Navels are a high-movement area and vary greatly from person to person.
Navels that remain open while moving can usually accommodate a larger bead or gem on the inside.
Navels that collapse while moving require a smaller inner end or a different shape (such as a bead, M&M bead, or disk).
This configuration is often referred to as “floating navel jewellery” and is a custom setup composed of three separate parts (two ends and one barbell).
If the navel collapses too severely or does not have sufficient tissue, it may not be suitable for piercing.
IMPORTANT HEALING CONSIDERATIONS
Simple ends (beads, disks, domes, and bezel-set cabochons) are ideal for fresh piercings. They are easier to clean during aftercare and less likely to snag on clothing or bedding.
Prong-set gems are more prone to irritation, as they can trap debris and are more likely to catch on fabric, especially during sleep.
Very small ends are intended for fully healed piercings. The smaller the end, the greater the risk of it being pulled through the piercing. We always discuss these risks during your appointment and may refuse to pierce with jewellery that is not suitable for healing.
Rings are often desired but are best introduced once a piercing is fully healed, with a few specific exceptions that heal better with rings. Rings must be carefully sized (usually much larger than expected) to allow room for swelling. Tight, dainty rings can create a “cheese-wire” effect, slowly cutting into the tissue and leading to irritation, migration, or rejection.

Can I bring my own jewellery?
We do not pierce with previously worn jewellery or jewellery purchased outside of the studio.
For fully healed piercings, you may bring in your own jewellery to have installed. We are not responsible for loss or damage unless the jewelry was purchased from our studio. Poor-quality or incorrect sized jewellery may be refused at the piercers discretion.
Jewellery must be cleaned prior in a secure bag or container to avoid cross contamination within the studio.
